Biographical note

The Select Committee on Narcotics Abuse and Control was established in 1976, and included within its jurisdiction trafficking, enforcement, prevention, and organized crime. It did not have legislative powers itself, but advised those committees with direct jurisdiction over drugs and crime. It was initially established on a temporary basis but was continuously extended every two years, until the House failed to reauthorise it, and it ceased operations in March 1993.
