Biographical note

Pontecorvo's research trip to China was supported by the Royal Society and the China Association of Science and Technology. Pontecorvo was in China 28 May-4 July 1988.

Pontecorvo's objectives during the research trip were to carry out co-operative field work on the high altitude vegetation in the Tian Shan range and at the North Eastern end of the Tibetan plateau, to visit places of artistic and historical interest and to build up contacts with Chinese scientists.
