Biographical note
An early member of Bowlby's research team at the Tavistock Clinic (see Section D. 3), in 1952 James Robertson made the influential film A two-year-old goes to hospital as an illustration of the distress which a child suffered as a consequence of being separated from her mother. He, and his wife Joyce (who, like her husband, had previously worked in the Hampstead Well Baby Clinic), subsequently went on to play a significant role in the efforts of the National Association for the Welfare of Children in Hospital and founded the Robertson Centre 'to promote understanding of the emotional needs of infants and young children'.
