Black, Joseph (1728-1799)

Lectures on chemistry: three sets of holograph notes of Black's lectures taken by students at Edinburgh University. Students taking the notes include the future Sir Charles Blagden (1748-1820) (MSS.1219-1227). Produced in Edinburgh.

Black succeeded William Cullen as professor of medicine and chemistry at Edinburgh University in 1776. His last lecture was given in 1797. See the Dictionary of National Biography for more detail.
