About this work

Description

This text was composed in the Yuan period (1206-1368). The illustration reproduced here comes from an edition of 1515 (10th year of the Zhengde reign period of the Ming dynasty). It shows the upper part of a man's body, with his left shoulder and arm bared. Acupoint names are inscribed in corresponding locations on his head, neck and shoulder. (See 'Lettering' for list of point names). Both this illustration and L0037885 differ stylistically from the other images taken from the same text (see 'Related images'), and may have been added in the Qing period (1644-1911).
