About this work
Description
In 1995 a mass grave containing bodies, some with pins through their big toes, and boulders over their legs was discovered in Marseille. Using DNA from the teeth of one of the bodies, a woman in her forties, forensic experts were able to discover the cause of death, bubonic plague (the black death). The programme goes on to piece together evidence from other sources which dates it to the plague of 1722. Filmed on location in Marseille, with dramatic reconstruction of events.
