About this work

Description

Correspondence concerning a patent application related to a process for the preparation of "Acid Penicillin", subsequently termed "Notatin". Application made by Boots Pure Drug Co Ltd, assigned to TRC on 28 October 1942, and then re-assigned to Boots 5 January, 1945.

"Despite the fact that Notatin has considerable anti-bacterial activity in vitro, it is inactive in vivo, and despite many investigations no practical useful application of Notatin has yet been found. For this reason, the TRC Patents Sub-Committee recently raised the question as to whether further expenditure should be incurred by TRC in maintaining the Notatin patents" (TRC Secretary to Boots, 10 January, 1945). It was decided patent applications arising out the original application, and the original application itself, should be re-assigned to Boots.

Includes a copy of the complete specification, and receipts concerning applications in Australia, Canada, South Africa, United States of America, Sweden, Switzerland, and the Republic of Argentine (all 1942).
