Description


This collection covers Paul Clift's work as Director of the UK Coalition of People Living with HIV and Aids, and as a Patient Representative and Committee member in various groups and organisations. Materials include newsletters, reports, NHS papers and guidelines, user surveys and business documents. It also contains printed and published material gathered at HIV/AIDS conferences and from other organisations such as leaflets, postcards and flyers, Fact sheets, reports and briefings, periodicals and conference programmes and digital materials designed for training and education.

This collection was not in a specific arrangement at the point of acquisition, though many conference packs contained ephemera and printed materials gathered at those events. Titles in quotation marks or italics are the original titles on the files, all other titles were assigned by the cataloguer. The collection has been arranged by the cataloguer as follows:

A) Archival documentation of Clift’s work in various roles.

B) HIV/ AIDS conferences and workshops, including printed and published materials gathered at them.

C) Grey literature, publications and ephemera collected by Clift.

Biographical note

Paul Clift has been an activist in HIV since the early 1990s. He has represented the community on many boards and committees with the British HIV Association and NHS England. He is an advisory board member of several research projects related to HIV and to LGBT experiences of illness and bereavement. He is a long-standing member of the UK Community Advisory Board and an active member of the European AIDS Treatment Group.

Paul was diagnosed with HIV in 1988 and became increasingly involved in the field of activism from the early 1990s following the death of his partner. Paul has worked as a Patient Representative in clinical settings, including at Lawson Unit in Brighton and King's College Hospital, as well as serving on numerous committees and studies over the years.

17 published books and one DVD were removed from the collection to be catalogued separately. Digital material has been transferred from the original physical media to secure storage. The physical media has not been retained, unless required as an access copy.
