The following description was provided by James Gardiner: "A poignant photograph of three sailors from HMS Natal. This armoured cruiser exploded and sank in Scotland in 1915 with great loss of life. Two of the sailors are wearing Ali-Baba-type costumes with drooping moustaches, probably supplied by the photographer".
