About this work

Description

A painting in Rita Simon's Archaic Linear style, depicting a woman standing, with inscription: "The devil himself, Old Nick strikes again once more. My temper", also "Mrs R Simon" (This is due to the painting being made for Rita Simon not to denote that it was by her or depicting her). The work was made by a mentally handicapped young woman in a day centre. "Her temper is the blue-black shape in her belly. Note the heavy work on the skirt: this may have well worked out her violent temper, so that her mood after the painting was different from when she began it" This information is taken from conversations between Rita Simon and Wellcome staff between 1995 and 1997.

The title has been taken from notes made during conversations between Rita Simon and Wellcome staff between 1995 and 1997.
