About this work

Description

A technical film demonstrating the factors responsible for secretion of the gastric juice. The structure of the stomach is illustrated (the film starts with an examination of a vivisected dog's stomach and thereafter footage of the material is taken in vivo and via animation). Normal and reflex stimulated secretion is demonstrated by a Pavlov pouch; after recovery from this operation, a meal is given and the juices are collected. An operation of oesophagostomy is performed on another dog with the insertion of a gastric cannula. Then, another dog is used to illustrate the response to chemical stimulation shown by Heidenhain pouch and distension. A balloon is also inflated in the stomach.
