Description

Two letters from the Ministry of Labour and National Service to J B S Haldane dated 28 May 1941 offering Haldane and Miss Spurway the opportunity to be considered for national service work through the Central Registry; details of the proposed posts are on the reverse of each letter. Letter from Haldane to the Ministry of Labour dated 30 May 1941 explaining Spurway's position in the Department of Biometry, her importance to research work in the department, and her assistance with Haldane's research for the Admiralty into escape from submarines. Letter from the Ministry of Labour to Haldane dated 4 Jun 1941 stating that Spurway is at liberty to decline the offer. Letter from Haldane to the Ministry of Labour dated 6 Jun 1941 stating that his secretary, Miss Jermyn, has enclosed her national registration forms, but that her position in the department allows Haldane to undertake his work for the Admiralty.
