    Salterns Improvements in Surgical Trusses, be performed, to be particularly described and ascertained in and by the following statement:— Instead of constructing trusses with stiff metal or other springs to clip at any part the body I use elastic bands secured with buckles and 5 straps or fasteners. These elastic bands are joined together and in conjunction with the pad constitute the truss, and the whole is adjustable to the body with great nicety by means of the fasteners. The pad is constructed as a hollow metal shell or bivalve enclosing springs (spiral preferred) which keep the two shells of the bivalve open. This shell 10 is enclosed in a case or bag of chamois leather or other suitable material, and is attached to the elastic bands at the point which according to the circumstances of the case is most necessary for the patient’s use. The trusses can be made to suit every kind of rupture, and more than one pad may be used if desired (on male or female), and are easily put on and 15 adjusted and can be worn with comfort even under great exercise without injury to the persons wearing them. In some cases I make the main band for the truss of strong webbing or other material not likely to become slack from the action of heat or otherwise. 20 Description oe the Drawing accompanying this Specification, which fully exemplifies the , nature of the said Invention, and exemplifies and particularly describes and ascertains in what manner the same is to be performed or carried out in practice; and I would here observe that although only one pad is shown 25 in the Drawing, more than one may it will be evident be used il req^uired* A denotes the main band to go round and over the hips; B, lock band to go round the waist; C, straps securing A and B together; D, pad secured to main band A, and having the lever strap E to go under the thigh secured thereto, the end of which has a tongue E for convenience 30 of passing it through buckle G; G^, G^, buckles to main band and lock band respectively ; Eb E^ tongues for convenience of passing main band and lock band through buckles G^ G^ respectively. Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of the said Invention, and in what manner the same is to be performed or 35 carried out in practice, I hereby declare that I claim as an entirety the said Improvements in Surgical Trusses suitable for various kinds of
