About this work

Description

Presented by George Lamb, this is the first in a series of documentaries which perform 'living autopsies' on young people who are leading unhealthy lives. Cindy Cotterell, 22, a professional pole dancer, is a heavy drinker, heavy smoker and heavy cocaine user. She is also a single mum and is becoming concerned about the damage her lifestyle is having on her health. The living autopsy consists of Cindy being strapped to an autopsy table in a flesh-coloured suit while state of the art graphic images are projected onto her body to show what state her organs are in. Consultant neurologist Dr. Andrew Curran performs the 'autopsy' which also calculates the biological age of Cindy's organs while Cindy's friends and family watch from the viewing gallery. Following the autopsy, which gives Cindy an overall body age of 31, she is encouraged to change her life-style and psychiatric doctor John Crosby lives in with her to monitor her through the changes. After following the new regime Cindy is re-tested and her biological age has dropped to 25.
