About this work

Description

A stupa is at type of Buddhist monument, commemorative of Buddha, and probably based on the burial mounds put over his ashes after their division

Thomas Daniell's comments on the interior of this temple show his difficulty in distinguishing between Hindu and Buddhist cave-temples. He refers to the stupa at the end of the interior as an "idol". Archer op. cit.
