About this work

Description

Transmission electron micrograph showing the posterior face of the cornea with the anterior chamber to the lower right of the picture. A stromal keractocyre is lying between layers of superimposed collagen lamellae. The collagen fibrils within these layers all have the same diameter, spacing and orientation. To the right of these lamellae is Descemet's membrane - composed of type IV and type V111 collagen. To the right of this layer is the endothelium that lines the anterior chamber. Descemet's membrane is approximately 3 microns thick.
