Second in a 3-part series giving an insight into the work of three top surgeons. This programme looks at the work of John Hutchinson as he prepares to operate on Andrew Meikle's spine. Meikle has a rare condition called Ankylosing Spondylitis which causes him constant agonising pain and will only get worse, but the surgery has risks of paralysing him. We also follow Hutchinson as he operates on a 15-year-old girl with skoliosis. The programme contains both detailed footage of the surgical procedures and quite intimate portrayals of the families whose lives are affected by spinal illness.
