Letter from Colonel Grierson to Mr Thomas Steuart Gladstone

Expression of thanks to Mr Thomas Gladstone for his actions and the outcome at the Board meeting, which 'vindicated the right of the Original Trustees and Founders of the Crichton Institution to exclude a lady who has lately become a convert to Catholicism from being forced upon us'.

Colonel William Grierson of Bardannoch (1877-1865) was Elizabeth Crichton's brother and one of the five original Trustees named by James Crichton in his will. Mr Thomas Steuart Gladstone of Capenoch served a Director of Crichton Royal Institution five times between 1854 and 1872.
