Saint Carlo Borromeo, cardinal of Milan, prays before a crucifix. One of the priests behind him lifts the cardinal's robes and reveals blood seeping out near his feet. Behind, through a window, plague victims are shown being carried away for burial

Edelinck sculp. Cum pr. Regis. Translation of lettering: The terrible disease rages, and, with his neck bound with a rope, Charles prays for help, slowed down by the blows. Flocks, breathe a sigh: the tears which the shepherd gives mixed with blood are the medicine of your ills" (followed by dedication)
