About this work

Description

The video reports on the growing numbers of people diagnosed with chlamydia: a disease that is described as threatening female fertility. The programme seeks to enlighten professionals on some of the practical ways to approach chlamydia: its symptoms, siting in the body and side effects. Specialists describe some common reactions of the patients, who are often shocked, and instinctually ask themselves who gave chlamydia to them. Vincent Moss, health adviser, speaks about passing blame, telling one's partner(s), and the importance of sexual health in relationships. Other health experts describe what steps can be taken to look after one’s health after contracting chlamydia. Patients are asked about their experiences, how they felt when diagnosed and the steps towards full treatment. The programme considers general sexual health advice, including issues such as protected sex, treatment of partners, abstinence and consent. The VHS tape includes a GUM advice pamphlet.
