About this work

Description

Examines the role of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in World War II, particularly in relation to Hitler's extermination of the Jews. John Simpson pursues the question of why the Red Cross did not condemn the atrocities of the concentration camps. He discusses the Swiss government's connection with the ICRC and its interest in maintaining Swiss neutrality at all costs. An ICRC delegate who worked in Berlin at that time defends the organization's stance, maintaining that opposition to Hitler would have jeopardised the Red Cross's presence in Germany, putting an an to the little good it could do there.
