    A.D. 1692 N° 310. Apparatus for Boiling Liquors, Refining Sugar, &c. SMITH’S PATENT. WILLIAM AND MARY, by the grace of God, &c., to all to. whome these presents shall come, greeting. WHEREAS our trusty and welbeloved subiect Anthony Forester Smith hath by his humble peticon represented vnto vs that he hath, with great charge, 5 paines, and industry, found out a way for “ Boyling and Heating Waters and ALL OTHER LlQUORS, AS ALSOE FOR MELTING AND REFINEING SUGARS AND ALL OTHER Things that are done by Fire, with Lesse Charge and Greater Expedition then is now vsed in our Dominions,” and that the said Invention hath not as yet been practised within our kingdoms of England and Ireland, or any other 10 of our forreigne plantations, and will be of great vse and benefitt to the publick, and hath humbly prayed vs to grant him our Letters Patents for the sole vse of the said Invention within our kingdomes of England and Ireland, and our forreigne plantations, for the terme of fourteen yeares.
