Description
Marie de' Medici as the personification of Power and Justice sits enthroned in the centre, holding a sceptre on a globe in one hand and a pair of scales in the other. On the left are Abundance with a cornucopia and Prudence with a snake. with Minerva in armour behind. On the right, Time holding a scythe brings a woman personifying France before the Queen. In the foreground four putti with paintbrushes, medals, musical scores, pipes etc. (representing arts) trample on bound captives representinging vices. Top left and right, two personifications of Fame blow their trumpets
From 1610 to 1617 Marie de Médici acted as regent for her son, King Louis XIII of France
