Description

Copies of documents and extracts from the Procès-verbal relating to the trial of Father Louis Gaufridy, accused and afterwards burnt at the stake in 1611, for Satanism and witchcraft, against Madeleine de la Palud: and of her own trial in 1653 on a charge of witchcraft. By several hands, in French throughout. As a result of the 1653 trial, Mdlle, de la Palud was sentenced to a mild form of life-imprisonment.

1 volume 6 bl. ll. + 453 ll. + 8 bl. ll. 4to. 251/2 × 181/2 cm. Original calf binding. The Sentence of Death upon Gaufridy is written on two folio sheets, the lower margins of which are folded over and damaged.
