One of a set of four engravings by Audran after red chalk drawings by Gillot, called Les passions de l'homme exprimées par les satyres. The present engraving and La passion du jeu (this catalogue no. 26876i) are after drawings in the British Museum (1907-11-18-35 and 36). The other two, La passion des richesses (this catalogue no. 26773i) and La passion de la guerre, are after drawings offered for sale at Sotheby's, London, 5 July 2000, lots 54 and 55
