About this work

Description

Epistolae alchemicae. Opus de lapide philosophico. Praeloquium. Tractatus Isaacci Hollandi. Followed by various medical, iatrochemical and alchemical receipts, and a long tract on the Powder of Sympathy. In Latin, French and Italian, with a few entries in Spanish. Illustrated with a few rough pen-drawings of alchemical apparatus, etc. The first three works have not been identified, but they seem to have been written by a practising alchemist who was very widely read in the literature, and he gives copious quotations from many authors. Possibly written in an Italian hand. Produced in Kaschau [Kassa].

Notes

On the 47th leaf is an entry: 'Cascioviae nonis Februarii, 1741'. This place has not been positively identified, but it is probably Kaschau (formerly Kassa), now in Czecho-Slovakia, but in Hungary at the time the MS. was compiled.
