Description

Photograph of a plaster model of three men from Djen, Nigeria, one of whom is being inoculated against smallpox. The model was made by Jane Jackson and is based on a description found in Foy, H. Andrew: "Inoculation of Smallpox as a Prophylactic Measure as practised by the Natives at Djen in Nigeria", Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene , vol.18 no.22, 1915 pp255-257. The model was acquired by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum and accessioned in 1944 (accession number R6/1944). It is now held by the Science Museum (object number A683141).
