Description

Five-part documentary series on some of the pioneers of modern surgery, combining archive footage, dramatic reconstructions, and interviews with surviving witnesses and participants. Part 4: A Gift of Life. Shows how the late Sir Peter Medawar's research into the problems of tissue transplantation led to the growth first of kidney transplants, and then eventually to the first heart transplant by Dr. Christiaan Barnard in Cape Town in December 1967.
