    of sunlight is the fact, also established by scientific demonstration, that the vital- ity, or vital force, of any human organ- ism is markedly increased by exposure to direct sunlight. This exposure to sun- light forms the basis, indeed, of certain methods of treatment of a few diseases of the skin at the present time. More- over, the life-giving properties of sun- light have been observed since the ear- liest times, and have been extolled by the ancients in prose and verse in many works which have come down to us. Both domestic and wild animals recognize the benefit of the sun's rays. We are all familiar with the house dog basking in the sun, the cat, the barn-yard fowl, the ox, the sheep — all seeking the light. If left to themselves undisturbed, all seek the sun and seem to love to bask in its rays. We may say, then, that it is a natural in- stinct of animal life to seek the light.
