Notes

The Edinburgh Lunatic Asylum was built in Morningside, Edinburgh, in 1809-1810 as the building shown in the present engraving, designed by Robert Reid, called the East House. The asylum opened in 1813. It was largely rebuilt by W. Burn in 1839-1840, and enlarged by D. Bryce in 1856 and W.L. Moffat 1874-1876
