Book of Fate

Book of Fate. Transcribed by J. T. Latham, H. M. S. Menai, 15 August, 1823. On the second leaf Latham writes 'The Book of which the following is a translation was obtained out of Bonaparte's Cabinet of Curiosites [sic] at Liepsic [sic] during the confusion which reigned there after the defeat of the French Army. It was held by him as a Sacred Treasure, and it is said to have been a Stimulus to many of his Speculations...'In the British Museum Catalogue, the earliest edition recorded is that published at Dublin 1820?, which is said to be 'translated from the German'. There are numerous later editions in English, with the title 'Napoleon Buonaparte's celebrated Book of Fate: the Oraculum'. Autograph of [Henry] Liddon of Taunton [1799-1876], and of R[ichard] L[iddon] Meade-King [1869-1938], who was probably Liddon's nephew.
