    Provisional Jones' Improvements in Treating Sewage. 100,000 gallons of ordinary sewage, these proportions will however vary according to the greater or less percentage of solid matter in the sewage. At the time of introducing the above mixture, or directly after, I some¬ times introduce, according to the particular character of the manure required, either a solution of chloride of zinc, sulphuric acid, burnt clay, 5 or magnesium, or a combination of any two or more of them. In practically carrying out my Invention I prefer to introduce the precipitating agents into the sewage just before it falls into the depositing beds, where the solid matters collect at the bottom, whilst the comparatively clear liquid passes through one or more filtering beds, 10 by preference constructed to filtrate by ascension. SPECIFICATION in pursuance of the conditions of the Letters Patent,, filed by the said Charles Jones in the Great Seal Patent Office on the 13tli May 1869. TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME, I, Charles 15 Jones, of Ealing, in the County of Middlesex, Surveyor, send greeting. WHEREAS Her most Excellent Majesty Queen Victoria, by Her Letters Patent, hearing date the Thirteenth day of November, in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight, in the thirty-second year of Her reign, did, for Herself, Her heirs and successors, 20 give and grant unto me, the said Charles Jones, Her special license that I, the said Charles Jones, my executors, administrators, and assigns, or such others as I, the said Charles Jones, my executors, administrators, or assigns, should at any time agree with, and no others, from time to time and at all times thereafter during the term therein 25 expressed, should and lawfully might make, use,, exercise, and vend, within the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, the Channel Islands, and Isle of Man, an Invention for “ Improvements in the Treat¬ ment of Sewage,” upon the condition (amongst others) that I, the said Charles Jones, my executors or administrators, by an instrument in 30 writing under hand and seal, should particularly describe and ascer¬ tain the nature of the said Invention, and in what manner the same was to he performed, and cause the same to he filed in the Great Seal Patent Of lice within six calendar months next and hnmediately alter the date of the said Letters Patent.
