About this work
Description
These DVDs portray government policy regarding the dos and the don'ts of parenting post-war. The films (some of which can be viewed online via the Wellcome Library's catalogue) cover many different topics from pregnancy to babycare, childhood health, education and 'test tube' babies. The pre-NHS story is told through the films provided by the Wellcome Library (see below); 3 of which are from the 1930s. The 3 silent films have been re-scored in a collaboration with the BFI. The new soundtrack for Bathing and Dressing has been created by Dr Felicity Ford (a sensitive celebration of the origins of the film). Ford's field recordings and the individual sountrack elements can be sourced via the Archives and Manuscripts catalogue under the collection reference 'TP2' (re-use is permitted under Creative Commons licences). Musical scores for the other titles are by Neil Thomas.
