    7 DEATHS. —During 1917 1,251 deaths of civilians were registered in the borough, but of these 139 were of persons not belonging to Fulham, while 882 inhabitants of Fulham died outside the borough, chiefly in various public institutions. There were, therefore, including 19 deaths among Belgian Refugees, 1,994 deaths of persons, 998 males and 996 females, having their usual residence in Fulham, representing a death-rate of 13˙7 per 1,000 of the estimated civilian population, which is 0˙2 above the average rate of the preceding five years. The death-rate of the County of London was 150 per 1,000, and in the Metropolitan boroughs the rates ranged from 10˙6 in Woolwich to 22˙5 in Shoreditch. Excess OF BIRTHS OVER DEATHS. —The natural increase of the population by the excess of births over deaths was 977, compared with 2,022, 1,536 and 1,772 in the preceding three years.
