Documentary looking at the effects of suicide on those left behind and the power of talking to help them recover. Eleven years ago, Angela Samata's husband Mark committed suicide, leaving her with her two sons. Here she explores the events leading to his suicide and the effects it has had on her and her family. She found the group SOBS (Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide) really helped her get through the worst times; we witness one of their sessions. Samata meets Professor Rory O Connor who describes his research into some of the most common factors leading to suicide - for instance, feeling defeated and trapped. Downtown Abbey star, David Robb, recently lost his wife Briony McRoberts to suicide and he describes his feelings about it. Samata visits Maytree Respite Centre, a charitable suicide sanctuary, the only one of its kind in the country. It is clear that the respite and support that people get from the Centre is hugely beneficial - given that statistics show that suicide is the biggest killer of men under fifty in the UK, why are there not more centres like this available? Samata meets a Somerset farmer whose wife committed suicide, leaving him with five daughters to raise alone. Finally Samata meets Jackie Page in Norfolk who lost her husband to suicide and then, six years later, her son Simon.
