Description

Obituary, with portrait, of Dr Christopher James Davis (1842-1870). The obituary is a newscutting from an unidentified source.

Davis was born in Barbados in 1842, and worked as a schoolmaster and Wesleyan methodist preacher before travelling to Britain in 1866 to train as a physician at St Bartholmew's Hospital. He died from smallpox in France whilst volunteering as a physician to Bavarian troops during the Franco-Prussian war.
