Cassini de Thury, César François (1714-1784)

Almanach des astronomes. Illustrated by numerous rough pen-drawn diagrams and figures. This volume contains a history of astronomy and a biographical list of astronomers, catalogue of stars, notes on various astronomical subjects, on optics, spectacles, spherical geometry, geography, etc. A note on the second preliminary leaf states 'Il paraît avoir été écrit par César François Cassini (de Thury) [1714-1784], car il ne dépasse pas le siècle de Louis XV. Il n'arrive qu'à l'année 1770'. Below this is a pencil note 'MS. original de Cassini'.

On the upper cover, outside is pasted a small label inscribed 'Manuscrit attribué à Cassini par Le Fèvre'. This Le Fèvre is probably Jean Jacques Lefèvre the famous bookseller (1779-1858).
