About this work

Description

Trachoma health promotion: this woman is demonstrating effective face washing to her community in Ethiopia. Children's faces should be washed with clean water or a clean cloth at least once a day in order to reduce attractiveness to flies. Hands should be washed with soap before and after cleaning the eyes and face so that Chlamydia trachomatis is not transmitted from hand to eye. Community demonstrations such as the one shown in this picture are an effective way of communicating good hygiene practice.
