About this work

Description

Poster (printed in black on white paper) advertising the appearance of Andrew Bannister (a 'giant' of 6 feet 4 inches) and Little Thomas (a short black man, possibly not a true dwarf) in some sort of variety show organised by William Francis & Harry Hunter at the Elephant and Castle Theatre, for 12 nights from 28th April 1890. Both men sang songs as part of the Mohawk Minstrels who were a very popular act based in North London. Many famous names of that time came out of their ranks. The poster shows the two men standing side by side against a black background. Little Thomas is on a chair.
