About this work

Description

An example of a buffo (comic) actor-singer. "Francesco Baglioni was one of the most acclained buffi of his time ... the caricature of Baglioni and its caption from 1738 describe the perfect buffo, underlining not only his good singing, but also the acting skills: 'A caricature of Mr Francesco Baglioni, called Carnacci", who performed wonderfully the role of Calascione, a young Roman fool, in the Teatro di Valle [in the opera] Finta cameriera [by Gaetano Latilla], and obtained the approval of all Rome for his manner of gesture and singing.'"-- DelDonna and Polzonetti, loc. cit.
