About this work

Description

This silent film looks at ectopia cordis, a congenital condition of the heart in which the heart lies outside the thorax in either cervical, abdominal or pectoral positions. The main subject is a baby born with a pectoral heart and no sternum. The baby is shown during the 28 hours it survived and blood chemistry, x-rays and diagrams of its body are studied. After the baby's death post mortem footage is shown in detail. We also see the baby's undeveloped twin which is also examined by x-ray and under post-mortem.
