About this work

Description

This programme contains stories documenting the lives of 3 people with neurofibromatosis. All are at crossroads in their lives and are about to undergo plastic surgery. Neil and Adam are twins who have neurofibromatosis. Neil's memory is impaired but his physical appearance is normal, while Adam is the opposite - his intellect is fine but his face is quite severely disfigured. Adam has had 18 operations already and now has to undergo another as a fibroma is growing dangerously close to his ear. Halley is a university student with a fibroma which grows predominently on her chin. Her alienation from fellow students has led to her dropping out of her studies. Paul, 28, is desperate to find a girlfriend and undergoes the most minor surgery of the programme. He talks frankly about his loneliness and lack of self-esteem.
