    The following gives the Death-rate for Farslev O O J compared with those for the combined countries of England and Wales. o Year. Farsley Death - Rate. England and Wales. I he Infantile mortality has increased on last year’s figures, although the actual number of infant deaths is but 3 above that for 1904 ; yet, the number of births being 3 less than in 1904, and this rate not being calculated on the estimated population, but on the number of births, and being expressed as so many per 1000 births, we arrive at the augmented figure which this year equals iii.i. England and Wales 128. This is a matter that is engaging serious attention at present, in view of the steadily declining birth-rate. In various towns ladies have been appointed to visit the homes of newly-born children and to instruct the mothers where necessary, in the feeding of same, and also to improve the hygienic surroundings. Early registration of child and immediate notification by the Registrar to proper quarters, are essential factors in bringing about a successful issue.
