About this work

Description

Graham Easton looks at new developments in the NHS. Under Labour, extra funding has been used for 7 'Healthy Living Centres', NHS Direct phone line, NHS Lift, CHI and NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence). Have these been successful? Are they cost effective? Julia Stewart explains how the Living Centre at Bromley by Bow is treating the whole person, reaching out to the community, providing classes in art, literacy and gardening. The popular NHS phone line is used by 60,000 people per year, but has it taken pressure off other services, or increased the public's expectations? NICE provides a guide to the NHS on drugs and doing away with 'postcode prescribing'.
