About this work

Description

Transmission electron micrograph showing plasma cell undergoing apoptosis. A large nucleus in the centre of the picture is beginning to show chromatin condensation and is surrounded by swollen rough endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria. The cell at the top is a mast cell showing partial degranulation - the release of lysosomal granule contents. Collagen and elastin fibres are visible in between the cell debris.
