Project Summary:This project draws on contemporary memory research to explore collective memory across cultural and social divides. Working with communities in the remote Northwest of Scotland and building on a long-term interdisciplinary exchange, through collaborative drawing processes that explore spatial and time-based understandings of memory encoding and retrieval, we will engage current scientific understanding of human memory to inform the development of a major new video and sound installation, and a publication. The installation will seek to represent complex memory processes underlying individual and collective perceptions of place, while animating visitors' own memory as part of the work.
