Papers and correspondence relating to Heatley's early research work from Aug 1933 (after graduating BSc.) up to Dec 1940 (contains only one letter from 1933; the rest is from 1936 onwards).

Covers aspects of work done, subjects of his research at different times (e.g. gastric enzymes, development of new type of microrespirometer), dealings with equipment and substances companies, ideas for wartime appliances and applications, grants and fellowships obtained and applied for, his supervisors, some of his work with Chain and Florey at the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, Oxford.

Includes correspondence with companies, scientists and laboratories, some notes on lectures on 'First Aid in Chemical Warfare' Apr-May 1937, submission to RAF of a method by which enemy aircraft might be attacked using lead weights and wire, letters from Nettleford & Sons Ltd re Heatley's device for fixing black-out screens. Also expense accounts for work done by Heatley and Chain at theWilliam Dunn School of Pathology, Oxford, paid by the Medical Research Council, 1936-1938.
