Notes

This work is untitled: the title has been supplied by the cataloguer.
The following description was provided by James Gardiner: "The English novelist Sir Hugh Walpole (1884-1941), at the height of his fame in the 1920s, posing in his garden in the Lake District with the up-and-coming young novelist J.B. Priestley. Both hold pipes. Walpole's life-partner Harold Cheevers acted as his chauffeur, the master/servant relationship being a convenient and plausible cover for their actual relationship".
