The big C and me. Part two.

The second in a three-part series following the journeys of three individuals diagnosed with cancer. This part features 83-year-old June who has pancreatic cancer, 9-year-old Mikey who has a brain tumour and 17-year-old Phoebe who has cancer of the kidney. In between these featured cases, other people discuss their experiences of cancer diagnosis and treatment. June is given three options: surgery, chemotherapy or no treatment; she opts for the latter which will give her 12 months more of good quality life. Mikey's tumour is rare and aggressive - his parents opt for him to have chemotherapy, which is the only possible treatment but only has a 20-30% chance of cure; he has many complications during his treatment. Phoebe had a large tumour removed from her kidney and the kidney itself removed but needs further treatment to stop the cancer coming back. After eight months of chemotherapy she will need radiotherapy and the hospital suggest she goes to the US to have proton radiotherapy, currently unavilable in the UK, which can be more targetted than conventional radiotherapy with less collateral damage.
