Biographical note

There seems little doubt that 'Mr. C.' is Thomas Creaser of Widcomb, Bath, and that this MS. is a holograph preliminary version of the pamphlet he published in 1803 entitled: Observations of Dr. Pearson's Examination of the Report of the Vaccine Pock Committee of the House of Commons concerning Dr. Jenner's claim for remuneration. In this Jenner's claim for £20,000, which had been opposed mainly through Dr. Pearson's hostility, is strongly upheld. Parliament had granted £10,000 to Jenner in 1802, and rejected the sum of £20,000 claimed: but an extra £20,000 was eventually voted to him in 1807. The author states on the 7th leaf that he is 'not a medical man'.
